The method for growing grapes on Santorini is different from everywhere else in the world. Instead of growing up on supports, the vines are trained to grow in the shape of baskets. The grapes are trained to be inside the basket. This is done because the winds on the island can harm the plants, and the basket shape serves to protect the fruit.
