The Obelisk of Thutmosis III (foreground) and the Walled Obelisk (background) in the Hippodrome of Constantinople. The Hippodrome was a great horse racetrack and essentially the heart of the city during the Byzantine Empire (when the city was known as Constantinople). It is now officially named the Sultan Ahmet Square by the Turks.
